Paper Title
The Impacts of Financial Literacy, Access and Dynamic Incentives on Micro Entrepreneurs’ Performance in Malaysia
Abstract
This study attempts to identify the antecedents of micro-entrepreneurs’ performance in the Malaysian perspective, with particular reference to micro-enterprises under the AmanahIkhtiar Malaysia (AIM), TEKUN and SEDC schemes. Cross sectional data were collected from 373 micro-entrepreneurs operating under the micro-financing scheme via questionnaire. Hence, the present study is aimed to revisit the financial literacy, financial access, dynamic incentives towards micro entrepreneur performance using two-stage approach in PLS-SEM. Financial literacy are constructed as formative measurement and financial access, dynamic incentives and micro entrepreneur performance constructed as reflective measurement. The empirical results indicated that both financial access and dynamic incentives are related to business performance of micro-entrepreneurs. As this study was confined to the micro businesses under the abovementioned schemes, this provides valuable findings by uncovering the differences among the antecedents due to the different reasons for performance of the micro-businesses. The insights gained from this study could facilitate policy makers to develop comprehensive business strategies and effective institutional policies for business development of entrepreneurs under the micro-financing schemes.
