Investigation of 2, 4-D Hepatotoxicity and Lipidium Sativum Antitoxicity on Rat tissue Using FT-IR Spectroscopy

Abstract
Pesticides have been proven to induce various toxicities in animals, plants and humans. The current study aimed to apply FTIR spectroscopy for the investigation of the antitoxic effect of the medicinal plant Lepidiumsativum(LS) against the pesticide 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D) hepatotoxicity.Twelve male albino Wister rats were divided into four groups (control, protective, curative and LS only) and were treated for 4 weeks.Results indicated that the curative and LS only treated groups showed a higher glycogen level than the control group whereas protective group expressed a massive depletion in the IR glycogen bands. Protein bands were increased in the curative group while reduced in both protective and LS only treated groups.All treated groups showed a lower carbonyl ester content compared to the control. Lipid content was higher in protective group only.This study proved that all LS treated groups showed a remarkable recovery from the adverse 2, 4-D intoxication. The LS water extract is postulated to have a significant antitoxic/antioxidant role against 2, 4-D induced hepatotoxicity, including its apoptotic effect, in addition to LS anti-aging related damage effect in rat liver tissue.
