Authority as a Forgotten Concept (of State and Constitutional Theory)

Abstract
The article elaborates on the meaning of the authority in the recent European political and legal context. It shows how the recent general meaning of authority dominating in the 20th century has moved away from its original historical meaning. Thus, it has confronted the legal and social scholars with several semantic difficulties that express themselves significantly in the area of studying of autocratic regimes. The article illustrates the relevant semantic changes as well as it outlines the theoretical difficulties that are connected with each one of them.
