The Challenges for Teachers on the Implementation of Education reform policy in Macao

Abstract
The paper presents the impact of the Macao education reform in respect to teachers’ perception on accepting and agreeing the implementation of the policy. DSEJ has been working on the Macao Education Reform since 2011, and that the Ten Years Plan for the Development of Non-Tertiary Education is in progress accordingly. In order to understand the views of teachers, the kinds of support given to teachers, and the implementation challenges of teachers in Macao local schools based upon the new policy and plan introduced by the Macao government department, Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ), especially on the Curriculum Reform (CF) Policy of the Basic Academic Attainment (BAA) Requirements. Various policies and actions taking continued to proceed in corresponding to the Macao Education Reform. The study followed a quantitative method approach, utilizing detailed information from survey with Macao local teachers. The result from this survey are used to explore the views of primary school teachers from various types of school. The data is used to quantify the extent to which different beliefs and attitudes towards the implementation on the various plans and policies introduced by DSEJ were endorsed by teachers in Macao. The results of the study provide valuable information on the extent to which Macao teachers agree on the new policies introduced by DSEJ; the kinds of support that Macao teachers find them mostly useful in their teaching; and how effective the implementation process for the policies introduced by the government department in Macao are.
