Goat Management in the Arid Regions of South-Eastern Algeria

Abstract
In order to characterize goat farming in the arid region of Biskra in Algeria, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 30 farmers. The first results show that this type of farming is generally practiced in agricultural or pasture areas, conducted extensively. The majority of breeders (58.8%) are illiterate and between the ages of 40 and 60 (70%). Livestock buildings are mainly zribas and traditional constructions. Goat feeding is mainly based on the use of wheat, barley and all year round. Mating is free, permanent presence of males in the herds. The births are usually 1 time / year, between January and March. Arbia breed coexists with other exotic breeds. Production of milk, is intended for breastfeeding newborns or for family consumption. Keywords: Goat Management, Local Goat Breed, Algeria.
