Development of a Methodology of Hybrid Systems for Covering Water Demand on Dry Islands

Abstract
Remote areas, such as small islands, suffer from water scarcity. Wind-powered desalination system combined with a pumped hydro energystorage system is implemented to provide drinking and irrigation water to a small Mediterranean island in Greece.Thepumped hydro energystorage systemcanoperate in pump and turbine mode and utilize sea water to produce energy, while the desalination plant utilizeshydro energy and energy from the wind turbines to desalinate seawater for both domestic and agricultural purposes.
