Revitalizing Postgraduate Research in Nigerian Universities Through Blended Supervision Model: Students’ and Supervisors’ Perspectives

Abstract
Tremendous attrition of students from their postgraduate programme during research work has been witnessed in universities in Nigeria. Among the causative variables for this attrition is blending work/family issues with programme demands, specifically supervisor/supervisee communications. This study investigated postgraduate (PG) students’ and supervisors’ perspectives on the use of blended supervision model in revitalizing postgraduate research in South East, Nigerian universities. The study was designed as a descriptive survey of an empirical site. Postgraduate students and research supervisors were the study participants. Results indicated that male and female respondents (supervisors and supervisees) were in favour of the use of blended supervision. The research recommended use of blended supervision model for all cadres of students in various modes of study in Nigerian universities with the implication of institutional support of constant internet connectivity and electricity supply which is a sine qua non for the smooth running of the model.
