Income, Costs, Economic and Financial Viability of Three Representative Farms in Central Mexico

Abstract
The purpose of this work is to estimate income, costs, economic and financial viability, and prices required to cover different costs of production of three small scale Representative Farms (Opuntia, Rabbit and Beekeeping) located in Mexico City and the State of México. Field information was collected through producer panels, which was processed to analyze Representative Farms (RF), income, costs, and viability were estimated based on the methodology of the AAA Task Force, adapted to de Mexican agricultural sector. Results are indicative of the situation faced by farms similar to those analyzed, located in the study area. The three farms are financially viable and unviable in economic terms. Sales prices full cover financial costs, partially cover economic costs and do not cover producer´s need of cash to pay for family living. In medium or long run producer could relocate the productive resources to a more viable productive alternative.Prices required to keep producer in business almost double the current sales price. The analyzed RF are technicallyefficients, but the specialized in rabbit production, current yields are above the national average, producer should look for technical innovation, focused in reducing costs and adding value to products.
