The Impact of Roundabouts on a Community: Case Study in PA
Abstract
In recent years, roundabouts have seen an increase in popularity in the United States. While the majority of the current research areas have been on the design, operation, and safety aspects of roundabouts, further research area includes exploring the impacts of roundabouts on roadway user’s (e.g., pedestrian, driver) perceptions and behaviors. This study seeks to understand the impacts that roundabouts create on a community. An online survey was designed to capture and assess the influences of a recently constructed roundabout in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. The survey was focused on the changes in perceptions and the quality of life for pedestrians and drivers who utilize the intersection
