Paper Title
Applying SMED Methodology and Line Balancing in Retreaded Tire Production

Abstract
Every industry always tries to improve the output and quality of its production and at the same time maintains its customer satisfaction. It is found that one of the retreaded tire companies in Padang only achieved less than 70% of its production target thus sacrifice its customer satisfaction. This paper exhibits the achieved results after implementing the Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) methodology to minimise set-up time and line balancing concept to balance the production line. The SMED technique offers the possibility to reduce set-up time, and line balancing helps decrease idle and delay time. After implementing the two methods, the set-up time was reduced by 31,4% and 34% for hot and cold processes, respectively. The efficiency of production line increased from 58% and 63% to 96% and 98%, for hot and cold processes, respectively. Keywords - Retreaded Tire, Lean, Set-up Time,SMED,Line Balancing
