Paper Title
Effect of Supplementation Different Levels of Fenugreek Seeds (Trigonella Foenum Graceum) on Milk Yield, Composition and Some Blood Parameters in Meriz Goats
Abstract
This experiment was designed to investigate the effect of fenugreek seeds on milk yield, composition and blood biochemical components of Meriz does. A total of twenty four lactating Meriz does, four years old (31.86±1.28 Kg in weight) were randomly assigned into three equal groups (8 does per treatment) and within each treatment 4 does were fed with a concentrate diet only and the other 4 does were maintained on pasture followed by feeding concentrate diet. Concentrate was given twice daily in the morning and evening. All animals were fed the same concentrate ration, but supplemented with different levels of Fenugreek seeds (0, 15 and 30 g /head /day). Results revealed that goats maintained on pasture and fed concentrate supplemented with 30 g /head / day fenugreek seeds yielded more milk and less fat content compared with does fed only concentrate. Serum glucose, urea, cholesterol and triglyceride decreased significantly (P≤0.05) with increasing the level of fenugreek seed. It can be concluded that goats maintained on pasture and fed concentrate supplemented with 30 g/head/day fenugreek seeds yielded more milk compared with does fed only concentrate with a significant decrease in milk fat percentage as well Glucose, urea, cholesterol and triglyceride decreased significantly.
