Women in Indian Police

Abstract
The most of the civilization of world reflect the superiority of man over the women and the woman provided with the work of preparing food, home caring and in tending the children. In Indian context, the situation was the same and the society always hold with stereotype attitude towards female and they were harassed in all the way of life. There was always a lack of acceptance from the male counterpart. Although women form about half of the Indian population but the opportunity for growth has not significantly improve for Indian women. Indian constitution gave equal status for women in all areas. Now women have emerged from the traditional role and entering in the professionally fields which were previously dominated by male only .Policing is also one of that field in which male are dominating since long. All over the world the development of women policing is a slow process and India is not an exception. Despite of resistance from the public and male counterpart women are attracting towards policing. The deployment of women in law enforcement agency is passing through the transition stage and it is the need of the hour to concern the issue of women in Policing. The present research paper based on secondary data will focus on the historical development aspect of women in policing briefiely at world level and mainly in the Indian context. This paper will describe the role and functions of Indian women police and the resistance and problems towards which they are exposed off. Keywords - Women police, Policing, Policemen
