Application of Platelet-Rich Plasma Gel Compared with No Platelet-Rich Plasma Gel Promote Wound Healing for Treating Foot Ulcers in People with Diabetes

Abstract
Objective: To compare platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel with traditional dressing method on its efficacy on wound healing of diabetic foot ulcer. Methods: Three studies mentioning use of PRP gel or traditional dressing method on treating diabetic foot ulcer were reviewed and summarized, focused on wound healing aspect. Results: Two studies showed that the use of PRP gel had significantly reduction in wound size and had higher wound healing rate. One study showed PRP gel had shorter duration of healing than control group. Conclusion: PRP gel is more efficacious than traditional dressing method on treating diabetic foot ulcer when comparing on duration of complete wound healing, wound size, percentage of wound healing area and wound healing rate.
