Estimation of E-Waste Generation in SYLHET City and Its Management

Abstract
Over the recent past, the global market of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) has grown exponentially. The use of electronic devices has increased in recent decades, and proportionately, the quantity of electronic devices, such as PCs, mobile phones and entertainment electronics that are disposed of, is growing rapidly throughout the world. Waste from used electrical and electronic equipment – commonly known as e-waste is one of the fastest growing solid waste streams around the world today. There are growing concerns that many developing countries are economically challenged and lack the infrastructure for environmentally sound management of e-waste. This results in adverse socio-economic, public health and environmental impact of toxics in e-waste. The purpose of this paper is to provide a review of the e-waste problem and to estimate the amount of e-waste generation in Sylhet city, Bangladesh.
