Investigation of The Relationship Between State-Trait Anger and State-Trait Anxiety Between Patients With Bruxism

Abstract
Aim : The aim of this study is to investigate the levels of anger or anxiety and the relationship between anger levels and anxiety levels in adults with bruxism between 18 and 60 years of age. Methods: 20 patients diagnosed with bruxism and 20 healthy volunteers were asked to complete the State Trait Anxiety Inventory with state-trait anger scale before any dental procedure was performed. The data were evaluated with SPSS 15 and the two groups were compared statistically with student-t test according to state-trait anger and state-trait anxiety scores. The relationship between state-trait anger scale scores and state-trait anxiety inventory scores were evaluated. Results: According to the results no significant difference was found between the individuals with bruxism and healthy volunteers in terms of state trait anger scores. (p= 0.07) There was no statistically significant difference between the patients with bruxism and healthy volunteers in terms of state trait anxiety scores. (p=0.698) There was as well no significant relationship between state trait anger scores and state trait anxiety scores in patients with bruxism. (p = 0.907) There was a significant relationship between state trait anger scores and state trait anxiety scores in healthy volunteers without bruxism. (p = 0.035) Conclusion: In this study performed in adults between 18 and 60 years of age, it was found that there was no difference in state-trait anger scores and state-trait anxiety scores in patients with bruxism. This conclusion may be effected due to lack of subjects or anxiety symptoms emerging with other psychosomatic disorders. Keywords - Bruxism, State-Trait Anger, State-Trait Anxiety
