Grapevine Ecophysiologyand Berry’s Quality: Best Adapted Varieties in Douro Region Terroir
Abstract
The climate variability conditions exert a huge influence on grapevine plants. Leaf water potential (Ψ), stomatal conductance (gs), CO2assimilation rate (A), transpiration rate (E), intrinsic water use efficiency (WUE) and fruit quality were determined in ten Vitisvinifera varieties, cropped under similar pedo-climatic conditions, in 2018 growing season. TFanca, Aragonês and TNacional presented higher CO2assimilation rate and stomatal conductance in spite of the low midday leaf water potential. In agreement with that, these varieties showed the high phenolic, anthocyanins and tannins fruit contents. Contrarily, Trincadeira and TFrancisca varieties presented the worsts adaptation responses to this terroir with the lower physiological and fruit phenolic compounds values. In conclusion, TFanca, Aragonês and TNacional seems to be better adapted to more stressful climatic conditions such as of the Douro Demarcated Region, Portugal.
