Paper Title
Development of Cooling Fluid with Lower Friction Coefficient for Environmentally Friendly
Abstract
In the 21st century, as it is important to produce products with care for protecting the earth, a producer must carefully give attention on the energy conservation issue, save resources and reduce waste which pollutes environment. On the other hand, in case of a machine tool, significant quantity of lubricating oil was used for smooth drive, much electrical energy was consumed for high accuracy using forced cooling machining. In this way, a lot of cutting oil was used for lubrication and cooling, and this contributes to environmental degradation. Therefore, in this research, the cutting fluid with lower coefficient of friction was developed and evaluated. The proposed cutting fluid which mixed the strong alkaline water with polymer and small graphite grains was firstly investigated for lower coefficient of friction. Then optimum condition for the proposed cutting fluid was investigated and decided in the several experiments. The evaluation for the effect of the lubricant with lower coefficient of friction was conducted through a CNC lathe machine performances. Evaluation for environmentally friendly was performed by using simple LCA approach. It is concluded from the study that; (1) The lubricant of the proposed cutting fluid which mixed the strong alkaline water with polymer and small graphite grains has friction coefficient 0.13, (2) The proposed cutting fluid was very eco-friendly alternative to the conventional one.
