In British colonial India Policing was not effective because it was not community oriented and it was just to suppress the voice of the public. After the Independence the scenario of the country has been changed and also the social and economic conditions in the country, which demanded the community oriented policing and the Police for the welfare of the society. Police is the agency which is directly involved in public dealing. So for the effective policing the Police and public friendliness is very essential. Community Policing is the policing based on engagement of the public with police for the effective implementation of the law and order. India needs a well –led, well trained and well discipline force of police whom public can trust and the common man can approach without any fear. There is a lack of trust between both part. So the community policing is the solution which can fill this gap and the police can prove itself in the better way with the participation of the community.
