Paper Title
Influence of Nickel Concentration on Coating of MWCNT
Abstract
In this study, sensitization, activation and bath compositions were prepared in different ratios and under these ratios, multi-walled carbon nanotubes were electroless coated with nickel. The amorphous carbon and catalytic nanoparticles were removed from surfaces of nanotubes in the acid solution for 15 hours before coating. Thus, a more effective sensitization and activation and thus a nickel plating process was prepared. Tin was used for sensitization and palladium was used for activation. The sensitized and subsequently activated multi-walled carbon nanotubes were immersed in a nickel bath. The pH of the coating bath was adjusted to 8.5 ± 0.5. At the end of each step, the samples were washed with distilled water. All studies were carried out at a temperature of 90 ° C and 60 minutes and the mixing was carried out using a mechanical stirrer. The effect of the solutions on nickel plating of multi-walled carbon nanotubes was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, electron dispersion spectrometry and elemental mapping. In the light of the findings, it is expected that the usage area of the multi-walled carbon nanotube materials which are widely used in many industrial fields, especially metal matrix composite materials, will be improved and product performance will increase.
