An Interdisciplinary Approach to Entrepreneurship: A Theoretical Model for Starting a Non-Profit

Abstract
Presented is a theoretical model for starting a non-profit organization by combining a Community Needs Assessment (CNA) with the Project Management Business Case (PMBC); the CNA commonly used in human services to determine the existing services and potential gaps in service within the community and the PMBC which is often used by successful project managers to establish the need for a project. Addressed are the two approaches’ in relation to entrepreneurship, differences and similarities of each process, common issues and challenges for nonprofits and project stakeholders, and the potential benefits of using the theoretical model as a more robust tool for planning a non-profit startup. Using this process can aid entrepreneurs to determine the feasibility of opening an agency within the community to provide new or additional services to those who are in need and underserved.
