Paper Title
Genesis of Teacher Taught Relationship in India from Vedic Times to Modern Day

Abstract
Since the Vedic age, teacher taught relationship in India formed the backbone of entire educational system. The teacher shouldered the complete responsibility of nurturing and educating the pupil during their formative years. They focussed on holistic and all round development of the students to enable them to take their rightful place in the society. The essence of this relationship was a sense of devotion to attain higher goals of life. During their growing years, when the students came to live with their teacher in the forest, the teacher not only played the role of absentee father but also friend philosopher and guide to the pupil. It was a very special bond where both teacher and taught displayed incredible faith and trust in each other. Modern Indian classrooms display a very contrasting picture of this time tested relationship which shows deep fissures within. Naturally the onus of restoring this faith lies with the teacher because they lead their students from darkness unto light. Some confidence building measures could include avoidance of monologue and surveillance, creating instead a more rational and logical atmosphere in the classroom .The teacher should insist on acceptance rather than obedience. Judicious instead of excessive usage of technology and corrective instead of punitive punishment can help to restore the faith between the two. If the teacher decides to lead by impeccable personal example the student is most likely to follow the right.
