Paper Title
Political Inclusion of Women: Gender Quotas in China

Abstract
This paper conceptualizes gender quotas in China against internationally accepted theories of gender quota typology. It points out a mismatch between these theories and the gender quota system in China and proposes a tripartite conceptual model which is not only more ‘form-fitting’ to the Chinese politics of gender inclusion but also ‘bridge-building’ between different conceptions of gender quota across political systems and cultures. The paper concludes that the Chinese gender quota system, due to the difference in political system, does not fall nearly into any of the Western gender quota typologies, and that an alternative conceptualization of gender typology tailored to the Chinese gender quota system must both take into consideration of the political system factor and reflect it.
