Organizational Culture Type in Turkish Universities using OCAI: The Perceptions of Students
Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the current organizational types of Turkish universities using Competing Values Framework (CVF). This framework assesses the dominant organizational culture based on four culture types: Clan, adhocracy, market and hierarchy bothqualitatively and quantitatively. In the present study, ipsative form of OCAI based on the CVF and semi-structured interviews wereadministered to students in four universities. The results show that at present the dominant organizational culturetype is hierarchy followed by market culture in Turkish universities. When the common aspectsof hierarchy and market cultures are evaluated, it is concluded that the general cultural structureof state universities reflects the mechanical processes with a controlled structure rather thanorganic processes with an innovative environment.
