Increasing EFL Learners’ Motivation and Achievement in Speaking using Educard

Abstract
This study is intended to increase the motivation and achievement of the EFL learners (freshmen) in speaking. The result of the preliminary study indicated that the average scores of the EFL learners are still below seventy-five meaning that the speaking competence is still below the minimum standard of the English Language Program. This study introduces the use of EDUCARD, a teaching media to increase the motivation and achievement of the EFL learners in speaking. EDUCARD is a teaching media in the form of cards designed to increase the speaking skills of the EFL learners. A classroom action research is designed to see whether using EDUCARD can effectively increase the motivation and achievement of the EFL learners in speaking. Two cycles are administered and successfully can increase the average scores of the students from 70.18 to 72.70 in the first cycle and 76.70 in the second cycle. Most of the participants stated that EDUCARD is interesting, and can make the speaking activities more enjoyable and relaxing. Keywords - EDUCARD, learning motivation and learning achievement
