Paper Title
Determinants Of Absenteeism In Relation To Organizational Commitment Of A Construction Company

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants of absenteeism of construction workers in the selected project sites in the year 2019of a Cebu-based construction company. The identified determinants were ranked according to the employees’ perception, and intervention schemes were designed based on the findings. This is a quantitative study utilizing the descriptive survey method. The sample size of 147 respondents was determined by using the Slovin’s formula based on a universe of 850 employees at 7.5% margin of error. The instruments usedOrganizational Commitment by Allen and Meyers (1990) which was slightly modified, while a researcher-made tool was designed to address the level of the seriousness of absenteeism. The data analysis techniques employed were simple percentage, frequency count, weighted mean and Relative Importance Index (RRI). The findings revealed that the general impression of the respondents on the determinants of absenteeism is less serious. On the side of organizational commitment, the general impression of the respondents towards this dimension is less committed. There are still avenues for management to explore so that the impression ofless committedmay correspondingly be improved. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that intervention schemes be designed and implemented so that absenteeism may be minimized and employee commitment enhanced, thus consequently maximizing productivity.
