Chinese Mergers and Acquisitions in The High – Tech Sector
Abstract
The aim of the article is to recognize the impact of mergers and acquisitions conducted by Chinese companies in the high – tech sector, as part of the Made in China 2025 strategy implementation, on shaping the technological potential of Chinese companies, and thus the entire national economy. The article presents the directions of implementing the Made in China 2025 strategy assumptions and its impact on Chinese enterprises foreign business activities, with particular emphasis put on the role of high technology in the modernization (development) of the Chinese economy. The next part of the article presents mergers and acquisitions conducted by Chinese companies, in the last decade, in the high – tech sector, and their share in the total number of Chinese M&A deals carried out on foreign markets, as well as the distribution of these transactions between different areas of the world. The considerations were supported by examples of the largest mergers and acquisitions conducted in recent years by Chinese companies. In the final part of the article, the effects of M&A deals carried out by Chinese companies, in the high – tech sector, expressed through the development of technological potential and innovation indicators of these companies were presented. The article is based on the analysis of data obtained from reports of specialist research institutes and consulting agencies, as well as on foreign statistical data and other secondary sources of information.
