Paper Title
Obstetrics Service Satisfaction Among Ultra–Orthodox Jewish Mothers In Israel's Public Hospitals
Abstract
Background: Despite the high birth-rate among ultra-orthodox Jewish women (hereinafter: UOJW) in Israel (an average of more than six children per family), few studies were conducted to examine the UOJWs' satisfaction with the obstetric service care during delivery. The aim of this preliminary research is to evaluate the main factors influencing UOJW's satisfaction with maternity services and to correlate between mothers' satisfaction and social variables including age, income, education and previous childbirths. Methods: The first phase contains in-person exploratory studies with 36 ultra-orthodox mothers to determine the main factors influencing their obstetrics satisfaction in the labor room. The second phase was conducted in health care centers delivering questionnaires to ultra-orthodox mothers who gave birth in the previous twelve months. We collected 161 questionnaires between June to October 2018. Results: We categorized the items into three dimensions: [1] personal aspects of care; [2] technical aspects; and [3] the physical environment in the delivery room. High satisfaction was mentioned about the professionalism of the staff, the waiting time and privacy afforded to the mother while low satisfaction was mentioned about the information given to the mother, alternative medicine and therapy methods used during delivery and the consulting options given during delivery procedure. No correlation was found between the mothers' satisfaction and social variables. All three dimensions can predict the mothers' satisfaction but personal interaction was found as the highest. Conclusions: The study results indicate the significance of personal aspects as predicting the mothers' satisfaction. The mothers ranked the professionalism of the staff, the waiting time and the privacy afforded to the mother during the care. However, dissatisfaction was found with alternative medicine, therapy knowledge, methods of the staff, consulting and information given to the mother. It was found that there is no correlation between satisfaction and social demographic variables or previous childbirths. This stresses the significance of personal aspects in medical service especially with delivery care as a main factor. Upgrading personal interactions with the client will increase their confidence and trust in this high involvement experience.
