Gold Nanoparticle Anchored Carbon Nanofiber Composites as Highly Active Catalysts for Detection of Ascorbic Acid
Abstract
Gold nanoparticle supported carbon nanofiber (Au-CNF) composite modified glassy carbon electrodes were prepared using electrospun for the detection of ascorbic acid (AA). The Au/CNF composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrocatalytic activity of the modified electrode showed a significant enhancement toward the oxidation of AA. This sensor showed a linear response to AA concentration range from 0.57 to 5.68 mM with a detection limit of 68.4 M (S/N = 3), a high sensitivity of 175.89 A/cm2mM, and a fast response time. In addition, the selectivity, reproducibility, and applicability of this sensor were assessed with satisfactory results. These indicated that the Au/CNF composites were excellent candidate materials for sensing applications.
