Pedestrian Counting System in Real Time Image Based on Haar-Cascade Classifier

Effective personnel management is requiredfor the success of modern business. Pedestrian counting is one of key factors in the personnel management. When it is performed manually, there are possibility of counting errors and even this could lead high labor costs. This paper proposes an automated pedestrian counting system in real time image based on Haar-Cascade classifier. The proposed system not only provides the counted number of pedestrians but also ensures better performance compared with the other systems. All processes in the proposed system are performed based on images only over Raspberry Pi with a camera module. Thereby, it is possible to implement a high-performance pedestrian counting system at lower cost. Index Terms - Cascade classifier, Haar-like features, Image processing, Pedestrian counting
