Women Empowerment and Skill Development of Employees in Organized Sectors - With Reference to Chennai

Abstract
This article provides an insight into women empowerment and skill development of employees working in organized sectors of Chennai city. It tries to find out the skill sets imparted to them in their respective organizations. The important methods and practices followed to enhance their skill sets are also identified. The manner by which women employees are empowered in their organizations is found out. Whether all these lead to career development of women employees is analyzed in detail by distributing a questionnaire to around 95 women employees working in various service sectors like Banking, Insurance, Hotel, Travel, Educational institutions, IT and ITES sector of Chennai. This study aims to find out whether urban women employees are really empowered and do possess the necessary corporate skills for advancing in their careers. Finally, suggestions would be given to propagate the various government initiatives coming under the Ministry of women and child development.
