Paper Title
Effect of Lower Limb Muscle Fatigue on Postural Stability in Young Adult
Abstract
Muscle fatigue is a common complain due to repeated bouts of physical activity and can have negative residual effect on balance. Research has shown that there is relationship between stability and muscle fatigue. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of lower limb muscle fatigue on static postural stability before and after prolonged sit to stand (STS) activity. Nine healthy young adults (age = 22.1 ± 8.3 yr) participated in the study and the static postural stability was assessed using the Biodex Balance System, with a 20Hz-sampling rate in the bipedic stance (BLS). Postural stability index indicate that the subjects became less balance after muscle fatigue; however the there were only Overall Stability Index (OSI) and Medial-Lateral Stability Index (MLSI) showed significant differences in postural stability but Anterior-Posterior Stability Index (APSI) showed no significant difference between before muscle fatigue (BMF) and after muscle fatigue (AMF). This result may have implication on monitoring prolong muscle activity and repetitive work such as the STS in variety conditions.
