Knowledge Management Processes and Innovation: The Higher Education Institutions in the GCC Region

Abstract
This study aims to highlight the current status of the relationship between knowledge management processes and innovation in higher education institutions in the GCC region and future directions. As higher education institutions strive to be competitive and innovative like any other business organizations; they have to alter their strategies and respond to changes in the current business environment. Given their specific context, higher education institutions are the generator and distributer of knowledge, however, this is insufficient condition for survival unless this knowledge is translated into new process or product/service innovation. Up to now, higher education institutions are concentrated on knowledge generation but far much away from able to commercialize that knowledge in developing countries and especially in the GCC region. The literature emphasized that knowledge management processes (acquisition, sharing, and application) have positive and significant impact on innovation in higher education context.
