One Pot Synthesis of Selinium Nanoparticles (Senps) At Room Temperature and Its Biological Activity

Abstract
Biological synthesized nanoparticles have upsurge applications in various sectors . Biomolecules present in plant extracts can be used to reduce metal ions to nanoparticles in a single-step green synthesis process. In the present work the green synthesis of selenium nanoparticles using aqueous extract of tender palm seed coat of Borassus flabellifer L (PASE) has been demonstrated. The high biological activity of selenium and its nanoparticles have an extensive range of applications. The healthy palm seed was collected from Nazareth, in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu ,India. The phytochemical screening test displayed the presence of dynamic phytochemicals in tender seed coat extract of Borassus flabellifer L (PASE) aqueous extracts. The heterocyclic components such as reducing sugar, terpenoids, flavonoids, and coumarins were principally responsible for the reduction of selenium ions and the stabilization of the nanoparticles. The synthesized selenium nanoparticles are characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, FT-IR, HR TEM and EDAX. Well dispersed spherical selenium nanoparticles were observed in transmission electron microscope image with average diameter range is 21 nm - 27 nm. Selenium nanoparticles were evaluated for physical appearance, pH, viscosity, antibacterial (Actinomyces israelii, Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Staphylococcus aureus) and antioxidant studies (DPPH radical scavenging assay). Selenium nanoparticles effectively inhibited the growth of both microorganism indicating good antibacterial properties. The value of percent radical inhibition was 75.16% ± 0.04 revealing its high antioxidant properties. As an outcome, it can be concluded that antioxidant and antiageing traits of flavonoids in tender seed coat of Borassus flabellifer L plus biocidal feature of selenium nanoparticles can be synergistically and successfully utilized in the form of powder.
