Material Development: A Corpus-Based Approach of Reading English Newspaper for EFL Students

Abstract
Our study aimed at developing the reading English newspaper material by using corpus approach and finding out the effectiveness of the corpus-based material. The samplings were forty-three-third-year students majoring English and the corpus-based material were used for a period of 10 weeks. The data were collected through the pre-test and post-test which divided into two parts: multiple choices and translation test. The quantitative data were analyzed through the paired sample t-test. The results revealed that using corpus-based materials were effective and could help students to improve their vocabulary knowledge, perceive the words, comprehend the meaning of the words, and also apply the words properly in the news contexts.
