Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees in Jordanian Hospitals: A National Survey Of Structure, Activities, and Drug Policies

Abstract
Objective: The aim of the study wastodescribe the structure and activities of PTCs and drug selection processin Jordanian hospitals. Method:A cross-sectional study wascondcuted using a validated questionnaire. Statistical analysis was done and data was presented into tables. Results: The overall response rate was 95%.PTCs are mainly present in most of large hospitals (45%). All PTCs had hospital pharmacists in their structure and most of them (66%) meet monthly.Majority of surveyed hospitals (84%) had a printed hospital formulary drug application form. The main responsibilities of PTC are general prescribing policies. Number, frequency, and severity of adverse drug reactions were the most reported criteria for drug selection process. Legal implications for practical, economic, and organizational factors are the most important factors for drug selection.Conclusion: PTCs in Jordanian hospitals differ to some extent with respect to their clinical expertise and some of their activities. However, PTCs in Jordan are relatively similar to other countries with regards to structure, activities and criteria used in drug selection process.
