The Entrepreneurial Motivation as Moderating Variable in the Relationship between Entrepreneurship Characteristics and Entrepreneurial Intentions of University Students: A Study in West Sumatra Public Higher Education

Abstract
This research aimed to exam the role of entrepreneurial motivation as moderating variable on relationship between entrepreneurship characteristics and entrepreneurial intentions. This research was conducted at public university students in West Sumatra. The data were drawn from 150 students through survey using questionnaires. We used questionnaires as a primary data collection tool and employed a quantitative approach. The students in this research come from public universities in West Sumatra. The sampling technique in this research used purposive sampling with specific characteristics from the respondents The results of survey were analyzed using multiple and moderated regression analysis to answer the research problem and hypotheses testing. The finding of the research found that entrepreneurship characteristics have positive and significantly affect on entrepreneurial intentions of the students. Meanwhile, students motivation have not positive and significant influenced on entrepreneurial intentions. Testing of moderating effect demonstrated that entrepreneurial motivation from the students have moderating effect to relationship between entrepreneurship characteristics and entrepreneurial intentions. The results of this study emphasize the importance of entrepreneurship characteristics and entrepreneurial motivation to improve entrepreneurial intentions for public University students. Implications of the finding in this research can used by stakeholders from public university related with learning process in higher education to improve entrepreneurial intentions from students.
