Paper Title
Female Economic Participation in Hidalgo, Mexico

Abstract
In Mexico, several changes in economic dynamics have been observed in recent decades. One of the most notable changes is the increase in the participation of women in the labor market. This phenomenon is frequently interpreted in the literature as a result of economic development processes. However, the increase in the economic participation of women is also observed in regions with different economic lags. Such is the case of the state of Hidalgo, which has been characterized as still one of the states with the highest levels of poverty and marginalization in the country. In this research, I analyze in a demographic perspective, the participation of the population in the labor market of the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. From the information of the population censuses from 1990 to 2010, and the intercensal survey 2015, the increase in female participation between 1990 and 2015 is highlighted, as well as the differences and particularities between rural and urban contexts, as well as between the populations with ethnic origin.
