SOI Large Cross-Section Rib Waveguide For Single-Mode Transmission

Abstract
In this paper, the single-mode waveguide based on silicon-on-insulator large cross-section rib waveguide is successfully simulated and determined using Beam Propagation Method for the downstream communication wavelengths of 1.48 µm and 1.55 µm. The cross-section structures such as rib height (H) is 5 μm while the rib width (W), slab height (h) and rib depth (d) are varied according to Soref single-mode condition equation. Although the cross-section structure is said to satisfy the single-mode equation, it was found that at d = 0.75 μm and 2.25 μm with the rib width Wmax = 9.57 μm and 4.79 μm, there were in multimode propagation for signals of 1.48 µm and 1.55 µm respectively in the parallel waveguide simulation platform whereas other dimensions are remained single-mode.
