Generalized Planar Caustic Beams in 3D Free Space

Abstract
In this paper we present a strategy for manipulating and controlling the so called caustic (accelerated) beams. These beams are localized wave-objects that propagate over curved trajectories in free space (e.g., the Airy beam). By defining a desired trajectory, we evaluate the corresponding aperture field distribution that radiates the accelerated beam along this trajectory. This is carried out by setting the beam-axis to be a surface caustic of rays. The aperture fieldis evaluated by setting the phase to radiate the corresponding rays and the amplitude is chosen to control both the transverse beam width as well as the homogeneous intensity along the curved beam-axis. Numerical example is given. Keywords - Accelerating beams, Ray Theory, Caustics, Airy beam.
