Study on Spontaneous Droplet Generation in ATPS with Ultra-Low Interfacial Tension

Abstract
The aqueous two-phase system(ATPS) generally uses two immiscible phases, dextran(DEX) and poly ethylene-glycol(PEG). Due to the high water content, DEX/PEG system is biocompatible and has been applied in the field of biology. However, due to the low interfacial tension of the DEX/PEG system, it is difficult to generate spontaneous droplets. Therefore, we use an adjustable channel that applies the difference in the modulus of elasticity between h-PDMS and PDMS to generate small cracks in the range of about 1-10 μm, And it is possible to generate spontaneous droplets without additional devices.
