Special Economic Zone of General Prayut Chan-O-Cha’s Government: A Case of Dawei Deep Sea Port
Abstract
This research is aimed to study the impact of economic development towards special economic zone of General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s government on Dawei Deep Sea Port project. The research is a qualitative research in which the documentary research and an in-depth interview are used as research tools. The 7 key-informants are the local people residing in Dawei areas.
The results show that the impact of economic development concerning special economic zone of General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s government can be seen in 3 dimensions, say, 1) Security dimension, it is found that there are contraband trades among the minorities, border demarcation problem, and illegal migrant workers, 2) Human Rights Dimension, there is a severe violation of human rights, and the remedy is inappropriate and unjust, and 3) Ecological Dimension, there are water pollution, toxic waste, and air pollution that would clash with the way of life and culture of local Dawie people.
