Teaching Human Resource Management for BBA Program in Skyline University College, Sharjah

Abstract
In the new millennium engaging students is a major challenge for faculty members across the globe. There is a shift from passive teaching methodologies to active teaching methodologies to engage students and also enable them in developing higher order thinking and problem solving skills. In this context a study was carried out to find about the student perceptions about various teaching methodologies adopted during the Human Resource Management course for BBA students of Skyline University College, Sharjah, in United Arab Emirates. A questionnaire was prepared and administered to students who have studied Human Resource Management Course inFall 2014, Spring 2015 and Summer 2015. Data was collected from a sample of 168 students who studied this course in the last week during their respective semesters. The Data collected was analyzed using SPSS -21. The sample respondents were asked to indicate the response levels on Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree and Strongly Agree i.elikert scale was used. Cronbach’s Alpha was calculated in checking the reliability of the data. Factor analysis was conducted for grouping the statements for teaching methodologies. To get comprehensive results, the study used factor analysis and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) methods to analyze the data. The idea behind PCA and factor analysis is to reduce the dimensions of the observation, put the common variance together and come up with common factors and specific factors. Further Ranks for teaching methodologies are calculated so as to find the most preferred in the following Lecture Method, Case Method Group Activities and Assignment It was interesting to find that students preferred Lecture method over other methods of teaching to understand the basic concepts of the course with relevant industry examples.
