Paper Title
Scheduling Tournaments Aiming at Impartial Match Times

Abstract
Match times play an important role in manysport tournaments for competition teams. The arrangement of match times can not only influence the performance of a team, but can even make a team win or lose in the game. To make the tournaments successful, it is very essential to schedule the matches with impartial match times for all teams. Given some required input data such as the total number of teams, the total number of game timeslots, the total number of courts available to play matches, and the game format, a good game scheduling with equal or nearly equal match times should be generated. In this paper, we present a systematicapproach to schedule games aiming at maximizing the fairness of match times for all teams. An optimization model isdeveloped to maximize the equality to match times. An evolutionary algorithm is employed to solve the optimization problem andthe solutions are found. Results from a number of experiments show that the proposed approach can find very good solutions. In addition, optimal solutions can be found in most of the cases.
