Juvenile Delinquency (A Case Study of Junior High School Students in Makassar City)

Abstract
This study aims to investigate types of juvenile delinquency among junior high school students in Makassar City, and to find out factors contributing to juvenile delinquency among junior high school students in Makassar City. This study employs qualitative descriptive approach, which is a systematic and intensive data collection process to obtain knowledge and information. Therefore, in this study, the researcher observed and interacted with principals, assistant principalsfor student affairs, guidance and counseling teachers, and junior high school students in Makassar City using interviews and data searching through document review. The results of this study indicate that the types of juvenile delinquency among junior high school students in Makassar City include absenteeism, truancy, smoking in the school area, stealing, fighting, and glue sniffing, while the factors contributing to juvenile delinquency among junior high school students in Makassar City consist of internal factor,which is the students’ inability to adapt to their surrounding environment, and external factors including family, school, and community.
