Evaluation of Joint Strength of Aircraft Fittings Using Swaging Process

Abstract
A fitting, as a part connecting the tubes which convey fluid, is used to compose hydraulic line between fluid systems. Especially, since the fitting is used for high pressure hydraulic lines in aircraft, to prevent the fluid leakage by high pressure of fitting joints, the reliability of joining technology between fitting and tube is required. Swaging is one of the forging methods for compression and forming by joining pipe and tube. After inserting a tube having an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the fitting, by applying pressure in the radial direction of fitting, the fitting and tube are joined permanently. Because of the advantage of less material loss and shorter working time besides other processes, Swaging is applied for the production of hydraulic line in aircraft. In this study, based on the parameters obtained form the structural analysis, the reliability of the performance in this swaging process is verified.
