The Students’ Ability to Classify Parts of Speech in Sentences at SMP Negeri 4 Bissappu

Abstract
The objective of the research was to describe the students’ ability to classify noun, verb, adverb, and adjective. This study employed descriptive method. The population of the research was the 9th grade class of SMP Negeri 4 Bissappu. The sample of the research consisted of 30 students from two class by proportional random sampling technique. The research instruments were used the sentences test and written test about parts of speech they are noun, verb, adverb, and adjective. It aimed to find out the students’ ability to classify parts of speech in sentences. The data collected through the research were firstly tabulate and analyzed into percentage analysis. Based on the findings and discussion, the writer concluded that the 9th grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Bissappu had ability to classify parts of speech in sentences. It was proved by the students’ mean score to classify verb was 48, it was classified as poor. The students’ mean score to classify adverb was 79.5, it was classified as good. The students’ mean score classify adjective wa 80.54, it was classified as good. The students’ mean score classify noun was 78.68, it was classified as good.
