Why Were English Major Students Demotivated in English Language Learning?

Abstract
This is a survey research to investigate the factors that demotivate English major students to learn English language. The participants were 158 undergraduate students studying in English major. The questionnaire used in this study was adapted from five-point Likert scale demotivation questionnaire. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed that there were primarily six factors which demotivate English language learning among English major students: 1) Teachers and Teaching styles, 2) Failure to succeed, 3) Inadequate Technologies, 4) Non-communicative approach, 5) Materials and Classroom size, and 6) Classmates and classroom atmosphere. The results of this study help English teachers to reduce demotivating factors which are important in EFL/ESL context.
