Paper Title
Perspectives on Family Literacy Programs in Qatar

Abstract
Establishing family literacy programs is significantly related to the development of children’s literacy skills. The success of these programs depends mainly on the partnerships between parents and teachers. Therefore, this study investigated family literacy programs in Qatar through exploring kindergarten teachers’ and parents’ views of about a family literacy program in which they got involved. It also examined the practices used by kindergarten teachers and parents to promote children’s literacy learning as well as to support the role of the family in the development of literacy. The sample of the study included kindergarten teachers and parents of kindergarten children who participated in the family literacy program. The sample of the study completed self-administrated questionnaires. The results indicated that kindergarten teachers and parents of children hold positive views of family literacy programs implemented in Qatari kindergartens. Moreover, the practices used by kindergarten teachers and parents in supporting the family’s role in the development of children’s literacy were ranged from high to fairly moderate. These findings were discussed and implications of the study were set accordingly.
