Issues Of The News Flow And Information Sharing In The Age Of Social Media

Abstract
The "post-truth" period is defined as "relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief". The model of news dissemination has also shifted in the age of social media. This study aims to explore issues of the news flow and information sharing in Taiwan and mainland China through secondary data analysis. The influence of traditional media is declining, while the digital and social media are getting in power. The mobile devices are being used increasingly in receiving the information and news for the young generation. They tend to reach the traditional media news via social media such as Facebook, Line, Weibo, or Wechat. The traditional media has to share their information flow with social media, moreover depends on them. This study also found several important issues to be examined, which are pursuing the real-time news causes the decline of news professionalism; fake news are flooded; the information credibility is hard to verify due to the complexity of information sources; the traditional media's business model is changing; News App become a new battlefield; the social responsibility of social media is a raising issue; the evaluation indicators of sharing information on social media become important; media literacy and information literacy are needed in all stages of education.
