Fine And Coarse Aggregates From Local Wastes For Geopolymer Concrete

Abstract
Utilization of oil palm shell (OPS) and palm oil clinker (POC) as coarse and fine aggregates, respectively in could alleviate the disposal of huge amount of wastes from palm oil industry and also diminish the undesirable consequence of construction on the environment. Three concrete mixtures were prepared with POC as fine aggregate with manufacture sand (M-sand) and rice husk ash (RHA), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), metakaolin (MK) as pozzolan or whole cement replacement materials. The mechanical properties of OPS lightweight geopolymer concrete including compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength test were investigated and reported. OPS and granite (9 mm) were recycled in different percentages as coarse aggregates in three different mixes. As the volume of OPS increased, the subsequent compressive strength decreased because the increase of OPS content reduced the concentration of concrete considerably due to more pores in this concrete. The oven dry density was found lower than 2000 kg/m3 for geopolymer concrete with 100% granite as coarse aggregate.
